Is the StarCCM License Server Reachable ?

If there are problems with the network, or the internet connection, the StarCCM license server might not be reachable and StarCCM fails to get a POD license.

To inspect the cause of license problems, you can run the tool licpath to test whether the flex license server is reachable.

  • On Neumann run (05/2020):
  • On other computers look in the installation folders of StarCCM and look for the FLEXlm folder (use the search feature of your system). Then go to the bin directory within the latest version of FLEXlm and run licpath.

If the output contains this line, the network settings and internet connection is ok:

Found and valid =========

If this is not the case, such as the following line, it's an indication for networks problems (rare) or server-side problems (very rare).

Looked but no server ====

If the server is reachable, but you continue to have license problems, then your key is likely expired. Tell Dr. Janiga and ask for a new one.

Further Diagnostic

To check wether the traffic to StarCCM license server is filtered, run this command:

nmap -P0 -p 1999,2099

The outgoing ports 1999, 2099 are required to be open to allow retriving of licenses.

If the license server is reachable, the output should show open ports

Starting Nmap x.40 ( ) at 2020-05-26 14:43 CEST
Nmap scan report for (
Host is up.
1999/tcp open  tcp-id-port
2099/tcp open  h2250-annex-g
Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in x seconds

If the ports and traffic is filted, you'll find the following lines in the output:

1999/tcp filtered tcp-id-port
2099/tcp filtered h2250-annex-g
